ABOUT US

Fight Back Against Cancer (UK) is a small Hertfordshire-based charity. It was started by a family who had lost several members and friends to cancer.

We understand the feeling of helplessness that can come with such a vicious disease as cancer. We also understand the anger that is part of grief, and we know how destructive that anger can be within families. We wanted to direct that anger in a more positive and constructive way against the disease itself. We needed to fight back, and so Fight Back Against Cancer (UK) was started in March 2013.

We truly believe that the only way to beat cancer is through research. Some wonderful advances have been made recently. Not in time to save our relatives, unfortunately, but we are working to save others from feeling as we feel now, and to protect future generations.

Any money raised will not be wasted; even the smallest amount will not get lost in a large funding pool, and we are all volunteers, so no money will be used to pay staff salaries.

We aim to give out small grants of a few hundred pounds to smaller research projects. These smaller units sometimes find it difficult to raise funding, but do valuable work. The grants are to be used to buy equipment, which can be used time and again. We feel this would give the best value for money raised.

If you have lost, or if someone you know has lost, a loved one to cancer; if you feel as we feel, please do join us and Fight Back Against Cancer. You can make a donation. You can sponsor someone else, or you can give up an hour to do a sponsored activity yourself. It doesn’t have to be a big thing – it could be dog-walking, knitting, sudoko, sponsored silence, fishing, bell-ringing, weeding, painting, anything you like, and every £1 helps. You could do a sponsored activity on a special day in your loved one’s honour. See Amanda’s story. Or phone us on 0793 188 2563.
