Find out about the invaluable research currently benefiting from the hard work of Fight Back Against Cancer (UK) supporters.

Our first grant: Institute of Cancer Research

To Dr G. Kramer-Marek a research group leader at The Institute of Cancer Research.

Dr Kramer-Marek is developing imaging biomarkers – biological tools which help us measure disease progression and the effectiveness of new targeted treatments. Dr Kramer-Marek’s initial focus will be on breast, pancreatic and head and neck cancers, however this research is applicable for a wide range of cancers.

The grant will provide equipment to further Dr Kramer-Marek's valuable research, particularly focusing on pancreatic cancer.

Lymphoma research grant: Rayne Institute

Our second grant was awarded to Dr Alan Ramsay and Dr. Bernedetta Apollonio, at the Rayne Institute King's College London.

Dr Ramsay is a lymphoma research group leader, this grant will fund research into non-Hodgkin's lymphoma a type of blood cancer.

Dr. Ramsay leads a research group focusing on translational research in cancer immunology. His current focus is understanding and overcoming ‘microenvironmental immunosuppression’ in order to identify new targets for repairing anti-tumour immunity.

Ovarian cancer research grant: ICR

Awarded to Dr. Saira Khalique, an researcher focussing on ovarian and breast cancer at The Institute of Cancer Research.

A message from Dr. Khalique:

Thank you for the kind donation that contributed to the purchase of a Thermomixer for our laboratory benchwork. This machine is incredibly useful as it allows us to mix samples at set temperatures, which are critical to the experiments that we are carrying out in our fight against cancer. Without it, it would be quite tricky to do these experiments accurately. Please do let the donors know how grateful we are.

Yours Truly,

Saira Khalique
